What to Expect?

Located inside The Shore Shopping Gallery right by the Malacca River, the Shore Oceanarium has quickly established itself as one of the newest premier tourist attractions in Bandar Hilir, Melaka. The Shore Oceanarium prides itself on being the first aquarium in Malaysia that gives you a 3D experience using special 3D glasses.

At the exhibit, you can have ‘real vision’ of some places and species such as mangrove trees in Melaka, the Pahang rainforest as well as fossil stones and extinct fish species via the 3D light board display.

There are 12 unique exhibits such as Jungle Quest, Ocean Theatre and Magic Aquarium that you can visit on your walk through the oceanarium. As soon as you enter, you’re greeted by the Interactive Touch Pool, where you can get up close and personal with marine species such as starfish, sea cucumber, bamboo sharks and even horseshoe crabs!

The highlight of the oceanarium lies in the final exhibit: Kampung Penyu. A joint venture between Shore Oceanarium and the Malaysian Fisheries Department, this exhibit featuring adorable sea turtles aims to provide education and raise awareness on the protection of this species.

Highlights:

- Interactive Touch Pool where you are allowed to gently touch some of the creatures such as sea cucumbers (very squidgy) and bamboo sharks (rough skin).

- Jungle Quest. This place is not just about fish but also has exhibits on land creatures such as snakes, frogs, lizards and so on.

- Ocean Journey & Ocean Theatre is where they have the large fish tanks and an overhead aquarium where you can view patrolling sharks from underneath. There is also a sea shell museum and 3D movie theatre.

- Fresh water fish have their own section called River Story. The aquarium full of piranha fish is impressive. -

- Kampung Penyu is a large pool containing sea turtles which you can feed with raw fish (purchased at the entrance). Nice to be able to see turtles close up but my daughter said it seems a bit cruel to keep turtles in a shopping mall. This exhibit is co-organised with the Fisheries Department Malaysia so hopefully the welfare of the turtles has been taken into account when designing the pool.

Very informative and beautiful place to visit for all group age. Interactive activities like the 3D theatre, shark cage and the swirl aquariums were fun. Worth the money! Can improve on the photography editing part though. Was not that professional.

Exciting, colourful and informative. It is located in a mall, second floor. Parking inside was RM1 per hour. We took the the lift to level 3A and walked down one floor using the escalator. My advice would be to take your time exploring by reading about the marine and wildlife animals (snakes, tortoises, frogs etc), play the virtual interactive games, such as fruit ninja, catching fishes etc and take loads of photos at the tunnel/neon lights area/feeding area. Ticket was RM40 per adult, together with a magnet souvenir and 3D glasses for a movie. Staff will ask you to sanitise yourself first before entering the left side to the petting zone (bamboo sharks, starfish, horseshoe crabs and sea urchins). Fish food was RM10 per packet, only to be used at the end before exiting. You will pass by a souvenir shop before exiting too.

Worth it as the ticket was rm40. Recommend to go on weekday because less people plus Monday and Tuesday free parking. Spend almost 1hour inside since there were many species and you can feed the fishes also. 😁

Good place to just hand around and view some fishes. Don’t expect much from this place. There are certain unique fishes but the rest is not special. Price wise is rather high assuming you will only spend 15-60 minutes in it.

Went yesterday (17/10/21 saturday) at 7pm because i saw in google it close at 9pm. But when I arrive there, it closed already. There were others that same with us. I think people should know the real operation time. So that they can arrange their plan better. I asked the staff there, she told me that for now it close at 7pm and the last enter at 6pm. Thank you
